Excessive or continuous exposure to high levels of vibration not only causes fatigue and therefore lower efficiency, but it can also lead to Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS). Most commonly known as Vibration White Finger.

Symptoms of HAVS might include:
1. Numbness and tingling sensations in fingers.
2. Reduced dexterity and pain in fingers and joints.
3. Blanching (whitening) of one or more fingers.
4. All of the above symptoms are made worse in cold and damp conditions.

Bosch Vibration Control

As the world's leading ower tool manufacturer, Bosch has always been an active advocate of workers' health and safety.
Bosch first addressed the HAV issue as early as 2001 with the introduction of Vibration Control handles for angle grinders. Since then Bosch SDS-Max hammer range has featured vibration reduction handles allowing the tools to generate the lowest vibration levels in their class. All Bosch electric motors are also dynamically balanced by computer, with counterbalance weights in many of its product ranges to ensure the smoothest operation. Today, Bosch continues to innovate and develop new ideas in this important area.
Bosch has developed this quick guide to provide useful tips and information to professional users in Asia Pacific as part of its ongoing advocacy and promotion of Health and Safety in the region.

Tips to reduce vibration in daily work

  • To avoid the dangers of HAVS, ensure you and your colleagues are properly trained on the use of power tools.
  • Try not to grip the handles too tightly and wear gloves to maintain good circulation.
  • It is advisable to take regular breaks and to rotate work with other colleagues on a lengthy task.
  • Try not to smoke as smoking affects the circulation and potential sensitivity to HAVS.
  • Use power tools equipped with Anti-Vibration technology, which generate far less vibration levels.
